Leader: “The person in charge, followed by others.”
The eight enneagram type is referred to as the leader, challenger and protector. The leader, much like the achiever, externally projects object orientated goals that he wishes to achieve before anything else. In this sense, he or she is primarily an extroverted thinking type. This type wants power and control over situations- just like the achiever (type 3.) However, they differentiate in MBTI type slightly.
Firstly, the leader type is an extroverted thinker. Primarily, the leader type tries to logically decide what is best. This leading type tries to protect their loyal followers, and it is their duty to use their extroverted thinking to successfully manage their own lives and the lives of others. This also makes them a judging type, as they spend so much time organizing themselves, and often organizing others, they are one of the most judging types around. They define the reputations of others, and judge others according to their logical evaluation of them. They are the leaders of the world.
Finally, the leader type differentiates from the achiever, as their second cognitive function is their introverted intuition, rather than introverted sensing. This means, as a leader, rather than trying to have a high reputation and status, they want more than that- they want to do something with their power. They have a vision about something they want to change, and they will make it happen.
Examples of this type of person include presidents, kings throughout history, and the typical strong provider of families in society. For these reasons, the leader type is most likely to be an ENTJ.
